roomsφ is a place to practise speaking with strangers and friends. These guidelines keep it kind and safe. Everyone who joins accepts them, and our staff apply them to every report.

The spirit

  • Be kind and patient — everyone is learning.
  • Practise the room's language; help, don't mock.
  • No sexual content, hate or harassment.
  • Don't ask for or share contacts, money or personal details.
  • You must be 18 or older.

Be kind and patient

Everyone in a room is learning something. Mistakes are the point, not a problem. Let people finish their sentences, do not interrupt to correct every small error, and thank people who correct you — a correction is a gift.

If a room is not for you, leave quietly. There is no need to say why.

Practise the room's language

Each room has one practice language. Speak it as much as you can, even if it is hard. A short switch to another language to explain a word is fine; taking over the room in another language is not.

Help, don't mock. Never laugh at someone's accent, level or vocabulary.

No sexual content, hate, harassment or threats

Not allowed, in voice or in chat:

  • sexual talk, flirting that the other person did not invite, or asking anyone to move to a private channel for that;
  • insults or hate based on who someone is — origin, religion, gender, sexuality, disability or anything else;
  • threats, intimidation, or following someone from room to room after they asked you to stop;
  • shouting over people or deliberately disrupting a conversation.

One report of this kind is enough for staff to act.

Protect privacy

Do not ask for or share phone numbers, messaging handles, addresses, bank details or other personal details — yours or anyone else's. Do not ask anyone for money or send anyone money.

Do not record anyone. roomsφ never records audio, and recording a room with outside tools without everyone's consent breaks these guidelines and the Terms. If you notice someone recording, report it.

No spam, scams, ads or harmful links

Rooms are for conversation, not for promotion. Not allowed:

  • advertising products, services, channels or other apps;
  • links to scams, malware, adult content or anything meant to deceive;
  • repeated messages, bots or automated joining;
  • asking people to "invest", send crypto or join a scheme.

Hosts and co-hosts

The person who opens a room is its host and can name co-hosts. Hosts and co-hosts can mute someone, remove someone from the room, allow them back, and lock the room so nobody new joins.

Use these tools to keep the conversation pleasant, not to punish people you disagree with. Removing someone for their level, origin or accent breaks these guidelines. If a host abuses their tools, report the room.

Reporting and what happens

Every person and every room has a Report button. Pick a reason and, if you can, add a short note. Our staff see the recent chat as evidence; your voice is never recorded, so describe what was said.

Staff may:

  • warn the person;
  • restrict what they can do for a while;
  • suspend their account for a set time;
  • ban them.

The person always sees the reason. New accounts start with a low Trust Level and earn more freedom by taking part without problems; sanctions can lower it.

False or spiteful reports are also a problem: repeated false reports lower the weight of your reports and can lead to a sanction. To object to a decision, write to anyaanyinyaa@gmail.com.
